Peter Mwangi and Fridah Ndida won the 21km warm-up race for the 2025 Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon, held on September 7 at Parklands Sports Club in Nairobi. The event attracted more than 1,500 participants.

Mwangi finished in 65 minutes while Ndida clocked 77 minutes. Mwangi said the race prepared him for the main marathon set for October 26 at Uhuru Gardens.

Organisers confirmed that more than 18,000 runners have already registered for the 22nd edition of the marathon before the October 10 deadline. Over 60 elite athletes are listed across the 42km marathon, 21km half marathon, 10km race, and 21km wheelchair race.

The 2025 marathon targets raising KES 70 million in support of Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, a program that funds education, employability, and entrepreneurship for youth, women, and persons with disabilities.

Another run at Karura Forest, a medical camp in Kibera, and a satellite race in Mombasa will follow the September warm-up.

Organisers announced changes to race-day management. The 10km and 21km events will end at different points inside Uhuru Gardens, while the 42km marathon will introduce a separate finish line for elite runners. Additional staff will serve medal and hydration stations, and a new photo-finish area will be set up for participants.
