After a 75 days break, the English Premier League is back with a curtain raiser between Crytal palace and Arsenal ending with a 2-0 victory in favor of the gunners. Thanks to Mike Arteta’s determination to cure the implacable anger spread through the fans after Arsen Wenger’s exit.
Nonetheless, the 2021/2022 season will bring back a lot of memories, a battle that lasted up to the final day between Liverpool and Manchester City, with only one point separating the two teams. Pep Guardiola’s boys, after a fierce battle, carried the day.
Fast forward, to the 2022/23 Premier League season which is expected to be better than the last. This is due to the recruitments made by the traditional big six: Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham
Manchester City is determined to defend their champion’s league title. The citizens have strengthened their squad further by the additions of young and talented strikers Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez. In addition, the entry of Kalvin Philips in midfield and Goalkeeper Stefan Ortega is likely to make Liverpool have a good run for its money.
Runners-up Liverpool is equally unbowed. The signing of young and talented striker Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho, and defender Calvin Ramsey is likely to ‘cause jitters’ in pep Guardiola’s dressing room. But there is certain static at Anfield, an awareness that the mood will not be the same this season after Sadio Mane left for Bayern Munich. They shall never walk alone anyway!
Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel’s rosy outlook is what observers are keen to study this season. Just one season after lifting the prestigious Champions League, the blues have brought Raheem Sterling and defender Kalidou Koulibaly to their ranks having already established a good and capable squad of players. Chelsea might be a force to reckon with.
On to Antonio Conte’s men. Tottenham finished fourth last season, bringing in a sort of drabbling that awakened premier league fans that football is not obliged to work as planned before. To improve their chances of clinching the title, Conte has signed Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma, Fraser Foster, Djed Spence, Richarlison, and Clement lenglet.
The gunners have shown that they can trust in young players, this being evident last season. Towards the end of the season, it was clear that they would finish fourth place but didn’t due to a run of poor results. Many linked this to Arteta’s rigid tactics. A good part of these anecdotes was seen as sharply polemical considering he had improved the squad incalculably.
Arsenal has since signed Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Viera, Marquinhos, and goalkeeper Matt Turner. The ball is in their court.
The Red Devils. Considered one of the most successful clubs in England, Manchester United is capitalizing on Eric Ten Hag’s entry. It is show time for the Dutchman whom critics believe his overdoing might lead to some undoing.
Ten hag, flanked by assistants Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren ited, has strengthened his squad by recruiting defender Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, and midfielder Christian Erikson.
It is likely to be one of the most vicious seasons. With one slight mistake, any of the clubs will be practicing to join Europa League or end in relegation. The Premier League is back!
