The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has brought together its staff in Naivasha for training ahead of the restart of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
The training is part of the Commission’s preparations for upcoming electoral activities, including by-elections set for November 27 and other events within its electoral calendar.
IEBC has confirmed that Continuous Voter Registration will resume on September 29.
Chairperson Erastus Ethekon described the registration exercise as central to giving every eligible Kenyan the chance to take part in shaping the country’s leadership through the ballot.
He reminded staff that their role goes beyond paperwork and logistics. “From a remote polling station in Turkana to the headquarters in Nairobi, you represent the Commission. The way you serve and interact with citizens defines how Kenyans see the IEBC,” he said.
Ethekon noted that the registration drive will focus on young people who have just turned 18, as well as unregistered citizens and those needing to update their details.
To support this, he said, the Commission has lined up preparatory measures to make the process smooth, inclusive, and transparent—key to ensuring a credible nationwide rollout.
Commissioner Ann Nderitu revealed that IEBC is targeting an additional 6.3 million new voters, which would raise the national voter roll to more than 28 million.
She stressed that voter registration is not a routine task but the foundation of fair elections. “Without a credible, inclusive, and trusted register, everything else collapses,” she said.
Nderitu added that each registration represents more than just numbers. “Every entry is a voice, an act of empowerment, and a reaffirmation of the right to choose leaders,” she explained.
