Nairobi, Kenya – Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced new medical facilities at Mama Lucy Hospital to strengthen healthcare services and move closer to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the county.
The county has installed six operating theaters to improve surgical procedures. An expanded Accident and Emergency Unit has also been set up to handle critical cases more effectively.
“With the rising demand for medical services, we must ensure enough facilities and equipment. These upgrades will help improve access to quality care for Nairobi residents,” Sakaja said.
The hospital has also received a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine, which will improve diagnosis and reduce the need for patients to seek imaging services in private hospitals. Additionally, a Smart Blood Bank has been installed to ensure a steady blood supply for transfusions, improving emergency response and surgical procedures.
These developments align with the county’s goal of strengthening public hospitals to make healthcare more accessible and affordable. The national government has prioritized Universal Health Coverage, and Nairobi County’s investment in medical infrastructure supports this plan by improving service delivery in public health facilities.
Governor Sakaja emphasized that the county will continue to invest in medical equipment and facilities to reduce hospital overcrowding and ensure that more residents receive treatment without financial hardship.
