A 36-year-old woman was arraigned at Winam Law Courts on Monday over allegations of engaging in an indecent act with her 14-year-old son.
Mauline Adhiambo Odero faced two charges: committing an indecent act with a minor and producing child pornography. Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Robert Oanda, she pleaded not guilty to both charges.
According to court documents, the alleged offences took place between May and June 2023 in Mowlem, Kisumu East Sub-county. The prosecution sought 14 days to conclude investigations before proceeding with the trial.
Odero was charged under **Section 5(1) of the Sexual Offences Act of 2006**, which criminalizes sexual acts with minors. Additionally, she faced charges under **Section 24(1b) of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act No. 5 of 2018** for allegedly recording explicit videos of the minor using her mobile phone.
Investigators say the suspect mistakenly sent the footage to a friend on WhatsApp, leading to its circulation on social media and her subsequent arrest.
The court ordered she be remanded at Kondele Police Station for 10 days while investigations continue. The case will be mentioned on March 24, and the hearing is scheduled for April 3, 2025.
