The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa following the chaos at a funeral in Limuru on Thursday, during which former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claimed he was the target.

In a statement, Senator Thang’wa confirmed that the DCI has instructed him to appear at their Nyeri offices on Friday to provide details about the disturbance caused by individuals disrupting the funeral.

According to the DCI, “Joseph Chirchir, a police officer attached to DCI Limuru, is investigating allegations of malicious property damage and injuries sustained during an incident at Bibirioni Boys High School playground on 28/11/2024 at 3:00 PM. We believe Senator Paul Karungo Thang’wa has information that could aid our investigation.”

Despite the summons, Thang’wa, a close associate of former Deputy President Gachagua, described the move as an act of intimidation, stating that he was prepared to comply.

“They refuse to meet us at the CID headquarters on Kiambu Road, yet summon us to Nyeri over an incident in Limuru. This intimidation will not silence us. See you in Nyeri,” he remarked.

Gachagua accused the state of orchestrating the disturbance, claiming that the attackers targeted his vehicle with stones and metal rods after his security detail was removed.

“As the public knows, earlier this week, the government withdrew the last remnants of my security following the impeachment process we are challenging,” Gachagua said, asserting that the withdrawal left him vulnerable to attack.
