Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has donated 5,000 iron sheets to traders at Toi Market after a devastating fire. To help the traders recover, he also announced that they wouldn’t have to pay daily market fees for three months.
The fire, which occurred last week, destroyed the market and sadly took the lives of four people. During his visit to the site, Governor Sakaja expressed his sympathy and promised to support the traders in rebuilding the market.
He emphasized staying committed to the people, saying, “I won’t abandon you. I’ll personally ensure Toi Market is rebuilt, and everyone has a place.”
The county government has also set aside KSh 100 million to rebuild the market and construct a perimeter wall around it. Local youth will have the opportunity to work on this project.
Despite facing challenges during a previous visit, Governor Sakaja reassured the traders of his continued support, stating, “Even when things were tough before, I didn’t run away. We must support each other.”
The construction work is set to start immediately, giving the traders hope as they begin to rebuild their businesses.
