Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has said he was stopped from addressing residents during a tour in Budalangi by a police officer in charge of the area.
In a statement, Salasya said he could not identify the Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) who allegedly stopped the event in Port Victoria. He said the officer cancelled his planned address without explanation.
Salasya later spoke to a section of residents by the roadside. He said he had intended to present proposals, including setting up a fish processing facility to support local livelihoods.
The MP said the action violated his rights under the law and undermined public dialogue. He also urged young people to prepare for the 2027 elections and register for identification cards.
Salasya has been visiting counties in Western Kenya, including Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, and Busia, to rally youth and promote his political agenda.
He also asked leaders in the Western and Nyanza regions to work together and build a united political voice.
In his address, Salasya compared his efforts to those of Burkina Faso’s leader Ibrahim Traoré, who recently survived an attempted coup.
