Moses Kuria Blames Rigathi Gachagua for His Downfall

President William Ruto’s senior economic advisor, Moses Kuria, has openly held former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua responsible for his downfall.

Kuria expressed disappointment, stating that Gachagua should have exercised greater patience and engaged more effectively instead of walking away from their commitments with President Ruto.

“In every sphere—whether at home, in business, or government—disagreements are inevitable,” Kuria remarked. “A bit of patience and open communication could have made a difference. I was just a minister while he held a privileged position, chairing cabinet committees. I squarely blame him for his missteps. It’s not always smooth sailing, but we must recognize it’s not solely about ourselves.”

The former Cabinet Secretary also emphasized that Gachagua should have waited several years before publicly opposing the President.

“I find it shameful that we come from a community that insists on leading at all costs. They could have waited three to five years, the duration allowed by our democratic system,” Kuria stated. “As the senior-most leader from my community, with the backing of 10 million people, Gachagua should have acted more responsibly. Instead, he has declared plans to form his own party by the end of this month. While others might celebrate this, I am not pleased,” he said during an interview on Citizen TV.

Kuria added that despite their differences, Gachagua remains his friend, and he never initially supported his impeachment. However, he admitted that circumstances eventually forced his hand.

“We’ve had a long-standing relationship. By the time he entered Parliament, I was already a member. We campaigned and worked together, with him as my senior in the Cabinet. I respected him fully in that role,” Kuria explained. “Unfortunately, Gachagua’s actions left him vulnerable, and I reached a point where I had no choice but to back his removal, despite my earlier reluctance,” he concluded.
