Martha Karua, the leader of NARC Kenya, has denied claims of a secret deal between President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. The reports surfaced after the Daily Nation alleged that Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and Professor Makau Mutua were representing Raila in the talks, while the identity of Ruto’s representative was not disclosed.
According to the story by Nation, the talks were aimed at reaching a peaceful resolution with Raila, who intended to intensify protests from Wednesday, July 19. The story was reportedly based on sources from the Kenya Kwanza faction.
However, Karua refuted the claims, calling them propaganda and stating that she was not aware of any negotiations by Makau Mutua or Junet Mohamed. She clarified that the talks between her leader and Ruto were only being held through the Bipartisan Committee, which collapsed before her coalition began demonstrations.
Karua’s denial of the secret deal comes amid heightened political tensions in the country which has been grappling with political unrest since the 2022 general elections.
