A man was arrested on Tuesday morning in Huruma, Nairobi, after being found with a human thorax believed to belong to his 19-year-old wife, whose body had been dismembered. Locals reported the woman had been missing for several days, although the incident had not been formally reported to the police.
Following the arrest and questioning, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated that the suspect led them to his residence, where a search uncovered additional body parts, including the head with its eyes gouged out, under the bed. However, police noted that the deceased’s left hand, waist, hip, and one upper thigh were missing.
The suspect was stopped by police officers on patrol at around 5 a.m. while carrying a suspicious bag. Upon conducting a search, they discovered the thorax of a female inside a cement bag. During interrogation, the suspect identified the body parts as belonging to his wife.
The suspect then directed officers to his home, where further remains were found, including the head. Also recovered from the single-room house were a sharp knife in a basin of water and blood-soaked clothing, believed to belong to the victim. Blood stains on the floor of the house indicated the crime had occurred there.
The DCI’s Starehe unit has launched an investigation to locate the remaining body parts and confirm the identity of the victim. The motive for the murder has not been determined, although occultism is being considered as a potential factor. The Nairobi regional DCI head assured that the investigation is ongoing to uncover more details and ensure justice is served.
