Civil society groups have called for the immediate release and dropping charges against Grace Njoki Mulei, a patient who stormed the Ministry of Health offices over challenges with the Social Health Authority.

The Kenya Medical Association, Law Society of Kenya, and Police Reforms Working Group have raised concerns that other patients involved in the protest may also face risks. They stressed that fighting for better public health services is not a crime but a civic responsibility.

In a joint statement, the groups urged action to protect patients’ rights and ensure healthcare access without fear.

“We call for immediate action to address these violations, safeguard the rights of patients, and foster an environment where health services can be accessed freely and without fear,” the statement read.
