Jeremiah Kioni, the Secretary General of the Jubilee Party, has dismissed the effectiveness of a National Dialogue between the government and Gen Z and other organizations. In an interview on Spice FM, Kioni argued that the dialogue is merely a tactic to buy time.

Kioni pointed out that the previous dialogue between Azimio and the government led to the NADCO report, which was only partially implemented. He noted that only one act from the NADCO report was actually put into action.

Implementing the IEBC 2024 Bill came about due to pressure from the opposition and protests led by Gen Z. Kioni, who emphasized that the dialogue lacks political goodwill. President William Ruto signed the Bill into law after protesters demanded its assent to facilitate the recruitment of IEBC commissioners.

Kioni acknowledged the challenge of addressing Gen Z’s concerns, describing them as literate and jobless youths demanding accountability after witnessing the country’s mismanagement.

The co-principals of the Azimio Coalition—Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, and Eugene Wamalwa—have distanced themselves from the dialogue scheduled for July 15, 2024. Martha Karua questioned the need for dialogue on issues like corruption and police brutality, rejecting the call for National Dialogue.

Azimio’s co-principals have been advocating for the arrest and prosecution of rogue police officers involved in the killing of protesters. The opposition has condemned the government for illegal arrests, abductions, torture, and killings of peaceful demonstrators.

Prof. George Wajakoya, founder of the Roots Party, supported the stance of the Azimio co-principals, stating that Kenyans are discontent with the current regime.

Kioni made the comments in  Kakamega County, where they attended the burial ceremony of Henry Ongoma Ambetsa, father of Wycliffe Oparanya. The event sparked political tensions as protests are set to resume in the streets.
