At the heart of Kibera informal settlement lies the County Library, a beacon of knowledge and community engagement. It is considered a safe space for children and adults to study and conduct research boosting their knowledge capacities.
Sorrounded by more than 20 primary schools,the County Community Library receives visitors on a daily basis who walk in to utilize the variety of books in the facility.
Certified Public Accountants in Kenya organized a book drive at the institution on 2nd November where CPA books were donated to enhance capacity of the library.
CPA Professor Elizabeth Kalunda acknowledged the initiative as a contributor to positive change in the community in terms of academia.
Prof. Kalunda called upon the Kibera community to be enthusiastic,determined and to embrace a reading culture.She highlighted the importance of supporting such a course to empower,uplift and impact communities.
CPA Dauglas Muhati,a mind behind the CPA books drive donation, mentioned that most libraries in the country have outdated versions of CPA books thus the initiative comes in handy.
‘ This initiative will benefit the community in terms of financial literacy,career inspiration,entrepreneurial skills and academics,’ shared Jacob Ananda, Assistant Director incharge of Library services in Nairobi County.
Colly Sitima,a librarian at the County Comunity Library appreciated the books drive by the accountants and called for more support to magnify the learning institution.
