KFC Launches Kalasha Awards; How to Vote

The Kenya Film Commission (KFC) has unveiled the 2022 nominees for the 12th edition of the Kalasha International Film and TV Awards to be held on Saturday 3rd December 2022.

The selection committee consisting of experts from film industry associations, corporates, government entities, and other industry professionals submitted 217 films to be considered for the 12th edition of the prestigious award.

Dedicated to promoting culture, stories, creativity, and skills; the gala ceremony is set to recognize the creativity of different filmmakers in what observers believe is a step in promoting art and culture in the country.

Speaking during the meeting, the jury’s chairperson Valentine Kamau observed that there’s a notable improvement in scriptwriting with most films scoring well in structure and storytelling.

“Some films are doing very well in structure and great storytelling. There is the use of good storytelling tools like flashbacks, the story in a story, comedy, poetic irony, use of music and monologues” said Kamau

The Awards have 39 categories with an addition of 9 new categories that include; Best regional film, Best Documentary (Short), Best Documentary (Feature), Best Makeup and Hair Stylist, Best Costume Designer, Best Supporting Actor in a TV Drama, Best Supporting Actress in a TV Drama, Best Viewer’s Choice (Feature) and Best Viewer’s Choice (TV Drama).

KFC CEO Timothy Owase announced that the best Viewer’s Choice categories will be 100% public vote compared to the other categories where the jury will have 80% while the public retains 20% of the total vote.

Kenya Film Commission has partnered with Star Times Kenya which will host the official voting platform for the nominees. Voting can be done via startimeson.page.link/nfpD
