The Inspector General of Police ( IG) Douglas Kanja has confirmed he will honour a court summons regarding the mysterious disappearance of three men, believed to have been abducted by suspected government agents in December.
Justus Mutumwa, Martin Mwau, and Karani Muema, now referred to as the ‘Mlolongo Three,’ were allegedly taken in Mlolongo, Machakos County, on December 16 and 17, 2024, alongside another man, Stephen Mbisi Kavingu. Their whereabouts remain unknown nearly five weeks later. Police have denied any involvement in the incident.
Kanja’s announcement comes after he had ignored three previous summons from two different judges on the matter, alongside Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Amin Mohammed. Speaking in Diani, Kwale County, Kanja assured he would personally appear before the court.
“Hakuna shida yoyote na wakati huo wa kufika kortini, mimi nitafika binafsi na tutakuwa na nyinyi pale na nitasema hiyo maneno vile nimesema hapa,” Kanja said, though he did not specify when he would comply with the summons.
The IG further emphasized that the National Police Service (NPS) is investigating all cases of abductions involving Kenyan citizens and promised that those responsible will be brought to justice.
