Nairobi County Government has committed to supporting businesses by building new, modern Markets.
Some completed markets include Mwariro Market, Westlands Market, Karandini Market, Gikomba Market, and Kangundo Road Market.
Mwariro Market, in Kariokor, Starehe constituency, and Westlands Market, in Westlands Constituency, can hold over 3,000 traders and have plenty of parking space.
These markets now have upgraded restrooms, modern stalls, parking spaces, and access roads for better accessibility.
Governor Johnson Sakaja’s administration aims to provide 20 markets to Nairobi residents within five years.
The newly built modern markets will include amenities such as cold storage, spaces for fresh produce and general merchandise traders, kitchens, washrooms, an ICT hub, daycare centers, ATMs, a social hall, and ramps for easy access by Persons Living with Disabilities.
Nairobi County has also announced plans to extend the daycare program to other markets, including Kahawa West Market, Mutuini Market, and Kangundo Market on Kangundo Road.
The daycare service is available at Mwariro Market and Gikomba Market, serving over 70 children.
Nairobi now has both built-up and open-air markets, including Muthurwa Market, Jericho Market, Fish Market Gikomba, Wakulima Market, Uhuru Market, City Park Market, Toi Market, and two markets along Landhies Road and Kayole Spine Road in Embakasi.
