Cardinals held their final session on Tuesday in preparation for the conclave to choose a new Pope, following the death of Pope Francis.

The Vatican confirmed that 170 Cardinals, including 132 eligible to vote, will gather for the twelfth General Congregation at 9 a.m. local time. The voting process is set to begin on Wednesday.

Monday’s meeting was the eleventh in the series, during which the Cardinals discussed global and Church-related issues.

According to Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni, about twenty presentations were made. Topics included ethnocentrism, migration, global conflicts, and the Church’s internal structure.

Speakers called for deeper connections with other religious and cultural communities and described migrants as valuable to the Church, stressing the need to support their faith.

Ongoing conflicts in regions such as Asia and Africa were also raised, with several Cardinals calling for the Church to take a consistent stand for peace.

The Tuesday session marks the final step before the electors enter the Sistine Chapel for the formal voting process.
